I'm just wondering if a $200 printer will actually print decent stuff.

Gae, if you can get something that has at least 1200 dpi, preferably 1600 dpi you'll be fine. Not an expert in it but those specs should get you decent quality.

In general you can get a decent inkjet printer, new, in the $200 and under range.

HP and Canon rule this range and have some very nice and reliable printers. I've been using an HP Deskjet color inkjet for several years and as my printing needs are modest it works out nicely.

Sure I'd love a Phaser, Textronix or high end color laser but the monkeys haven't seen any need to fly out of my butt lately (a condition for a new printer set by my wife) so I'll just make do.

What I want/need to do is get prints from some of the trips.

I can upload to snapfish, or CD and take the stuff to Walgreens or some place. Would prefer our own printer, that will probably be used 6 times a year on photos.

OK, I've been poking around a bit and think you might like the HP Photosmart 7960.

It's one of a trio of PCMagazine Editor's Choices in the PhotoPrinter category and can be had from just about $200 - $300. Spec and Price Sheet at NewEgg

The other EdChoices are the Canon i9900 Photo printer - currently $400 - $600 and the Epson Stylus Pro 4000 which is strictly pro grade in the $1500 range though you might want to look at the Epson 900, 960 or
Canon i455, i475d, i560, i860 Desktop Photo Printers; i9100 Photo Printers

My personal choice would be the HP Photosmart 7960 as it makes excellent prints and works well as an all around printer at the same time.

Now back to being the bane of the neoconservative rabble.
